Meeting of representatives of Institutions of Science and Technology in Latin America	Objectives: Representatives from 11 Latin American STI agencies, Mexican civil society and international organizations met in an open space of discussion and knowledge-sharing on issues related to the gender dimension in the performance of national systems of science, technology and innovation in the region. The meeting allowed participants to exchange experiences, to share their vision on the main challenges in the area and to discuss possible initiatives of regional cooperation. The Competitiveness and Innovation Division at the Inter-American Bank is leading a research project aimed at advancing the knowledge on the economic costs that LAC economies are facing due to the underrepresentation of women in science, technology and innovation activities. A Call for Papers was launched in December 2015 and five proposals were selected on February 2016 over a total number of 33 submitted proposals. The number of proposals received shows the interest of researchers on the issues of gender gaps in STI in LAC. The chosen studies cover topics related to: gender gaps in scientific productivity and the effects on scientific performance in Mexico; the impact of gender-neutral incentives to researchers in Paraguay; the costs of entrepreneurship gender gaps in aggregate productivity in Chile; evidence of the existence of glass ceiling in research in Uruguay; and the effects of gender diversity on firm innovation in Colombia. The preliminary results of the research papers were presented in this technical workshop on Day 0 of the GS8. Given the quantitative nature of the papers, the aim of the workshop was to explain the methodology applied in each paper, present preliminary findings and discuss together strategies to improve the quality of the papers. Each researcher received comments from a designed discussant, from the audience and from the IDB team. The main messages derived from the preliminary results of this research project were also presented in a parallel session on Day 1 of the GS8. Workshop: Creating Futures in Science	Objective: The workshop targets women at early career stage who participate in the CONACYT training program for indigenous women. The aim is to adapt and transfer the experience of applying the scenario approach from the European context to Mexico and to Latin America, to reflect the realities of the science landscapes and women’s lives in the region. It will also help create a ‘training-the-trainer’ toolkit. Participants: 30 indigenous young women who are studying postgraduate degree in the University of Guerrero, holding a CONACYT scholarship.
