Africa’s pathways to energy transition and vision of Green New Deal through a gender lens

 

 

The subtopics of particular interest include:

  • Role of universities e.g., What is the role of academia in building capacity and human resources that can support just and gender sensitive sustainable energy transitions? What changes are need to the curriculum and achieving greater participation of women in higher education to become energy transition professionals.
  • Role of society, e.g., What are the social conditions and systems that are required to ensure just and gender sensitive sustainable energy transitions? What are the challenges for communities in rural, peri-urban, and urban settings? What is the true impact of moving away from firewood and biomass as the key household energy?
  • Role of government, e.g., What policies are needed to ensure just and gender sensitive sustainable energy transitions? How to implement gender mainstreaming in energy transition research, policy, and programmes?
  • Role of environmental wellbeing, e.g., What is the role of natural ecosystems. What is the relationship between land use, livelihoods, and transition to renewable energy sources? How to monitor and prevent the impact of environmental degradation on communities?
